Hi Mickey!

I can’t wait to say that tomorrow morning when we do our show live from Disneyland. It’s Halloweentime and I love it!  The thing is, I don’t like scary Halloween, or sexy Halloween like grown-ups make it. I like the way kids celebrate Halloween with cute costumes and lots of candy! On those fronts Disney delivers and I’m all about it.

I grew up in Buffalo, New York so Disneyland for me was a fairytale. It may not of been long ago but it was far away…California. What I knew of the state was what I learned in songs, movies, TV and history class.  Here are the highlights: swimming pools, movie stars, it never rains in the southern part, there’s a hotel you can check in but you can never leave, Tony Bennett left his heart, Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman’s Wharf, Santa Monica Pier, In and Out Burger, Sunset Strip, ”There’s gold in them thar hills, Mc Hammer, South Central, Watts, etc. but this stuff was a long way away from my everyday.

Now as an adult who lives in California and has been to Disneyland, you would think the novelty has worn off…nope. Tears still well up in my eyes when I see Mickey Mouse and I’ll still whisper his name under my breath. Once I get my composure and if there’s not a big line of kids waiting (hey, they come first) I’ll ask to take my picture with him. It’s still a dream come true for the little girl in me who never imagined visiting California let alone living here. Mickey and Me together at long last and by the way, most of the stuff I learned about California is true and it still makes me say “Wow!”.  I mean I can drive over the Golden Gate Bridge whenever I want, most people just look at it during the opening credits of a movie or TV show.  My Cali honeymoon continues which means Mickey, put out some fresh towels I’m coming over!
